Actually, these oceanic dolphins are very gregarious. They live in huge pods of up to 100 animals! They are very energetic and super athletic! One of my favorite cetacean species! They are wayy too cute! This one lives with two other of the same species, so it's not really alone. :)

Look at that face! Too adorable!

Please, no Anti-Captivity or Anti-MSQ rants here. This is a piece of artwork, so please treat it as such, not a platform for a tirade. If you want to know my opinions, please see my journal entry. If you want to discuss, please note me.

They are one of the most beautiful dolphins. I mean, all dolphin species are beautiful, but there is just something about PWD's....

When I was doing research at OrcaLab last summer on orca vocalizations, sometimes pods made up of hundreds of PWD would chatter on the hydrophones. All of the interns, me included, would giggle. They are just so darned cute!

They are so, so special! I absolutely love these guys and think they have to be my favorite dolphin species. They are such unique little animals! It's hard, though, because with every animal, you feel that way. Big cat people say the same thing. I have to feel that way about manatees. But I'm biased because I worked with them. ;)

You worked at OrcaLab? That sounds incredible! I don't think I could ever sit and sort through data and observations for an internship; my internship was with a zoo, so we were working constantly, though not necessarily directly with the animals. I'd love to here hydrophone recordings of dolphins, though; it must be incredible!

It absolutely was. I still miss it, and it's been about 6 months since I got home. It was really getting back to nature...camping, waking up in the night for 2-3 hour shifts to listen for or record calls. Observing them as they moved through the straight. There really are no words to describe how amazing it was. I had wanted to be a trainer before I went there, but now I know I want to do research on wild animals. I can't say I approve of them in captivity anymore (I'm not anti-zoo or aquarium; I work at one!). I dunno...I guess learning about and seeing first hand how orca society works makes me biased.

I know exactly what you mean! It's so hard to say that I love one species more than the other! I do admit that orcas are my absolute favorite, and they have been since I was a toddler. But them aside, it's super hard to pick one! :D

OMG love the contrast of the aqua-colored water and the black and white dolphin!
