Artist's Comments

The Believe I went to was later in the day, so I don't have a lot of great shots. It was one of the best shows I've been to in a long time, though. The babies and Katina were all playing before the show started, and they used a bunch of whales in the opening!

It's always a treat to see Tilikum, in all of his impressiveness. I get so disheartened when he doesn't do the "Shamu, Shamu" portion of the show, which is usually the only time I see him perform. After the "Testimony" piece, I usually walk up to the handicapped section and watch the back pools anxiously to see if any trainers are going back there or if a flopped dorsal is moving between pools!! :XD:

Wonderful timing! He looks so huge spyhopping next to that trainer.

Do you move around during the show and photograph from different locations? They never crossed my mind until I read your description.

Thanks for the comment! I wait outside the stadium before the show starts and once let in, trot up and down the whole thing like a horse nervously pacing the fence, trying to determine the best angle before all of the good seats fill up, lol. Once I find my spot, I stay there until before the splash portion, when I move to the handicapped section. I will usually stay to one side to catch the one or two bows/breaches they have, hoping they're in my direction (but usually not!) and then when it's winding up, I go by the middle near above the slideout. I only change seating locations from show to show. They don't like so much when you move around during the show, and you certainly can't change seats!

Ah thank you for answering! I was curious about that. It's impossible to change spots during the show at Marineland because of the sheer amount of people. There would be no where to change to! I do change positions in different shows like you said you do. :)

Yep, that's the same with SWF. Once you get your seat before the show, you don't move, lol. Once, I was sitting in the "sunny" side of the stadium (Funny story, because it was 11 am, the way the sun was shining on my section of seats gave me a spectacular sunburn that made half of my face red! lol It wasn't a bad burn, but I looked like I had a "Phantom of the Opera" like mask on one side of my face!), and was so thirsty from sitting there for so long with the sun blistering on me, I was afraid I might pass out! But I would not give up my seat because I knew someone would take it. (Mind you, the stadium opens about 1/2 hour before the show starts, so it hadn't started yet.) The show was almost about to begin, and I finally said to myself, "You're not going to get any good shots if you're unconscious. I finally relented and did what I should've done a long time ago: I asked someone to hold my spot for me while I ran to get a drink. :P

Aww well that was lucky the person next to you was nice enough to help you! Seriously sometimes I feel like I'm going to pass out from the heat and that's only half an hour of waiting! I suck in the heat.
